Austin Scarlett considers Brigitte Bardot, the French model/actress, to be his eternal muse. Brigitte Bardot rose to prominence in the 1950s and remained a public figure through the 1960s. The wide-open Bardot neckline is named for her and the term “sex kitten” was coined on her behalf. Her tall bouffant hairstyle made her an icon among the mod fashion scene, and she was even the subject of an Andy Warhol painting. Therefore it’s no surprise that Austin Scarlett would find her to be such an inspiration – his fall 2017 collection features multiple modern takes on the short shift dresses that were so popular in the 1960s.

While the shorter dresses and jumpsuits in the new line may feel at home for a courthouse wedding, reception, or even an opulent engagement party, Austin Scarlett’s full-length gowns are perfectly elegant for the modern bride. The “Simone” dress proves you don’t need a lot of embellishments to look beautiful, as the faille and crepe silk gown with an asymmetrical, off-the-shoulder neckline will make any bride look statuesque. See these styles and more in the slideshow above!
