Nashville-based designer Olia Zavozina once again grabbed everyone’s attention recently when Olympic gold medalist and Dancing With the Stars winner Shawn Johnson revealed that she wore a custom Olia Zavozina gown for her April 16th wedding to NFL player Andrew East. Brides-to-be everywhere were thrilled to see the mermaid dress – aptly named “Shawn” – and 20 additional new designs in the spring 2017 collection showcased at Bridal Fashion Week in New York City.

The most popular dresses of the collection range widely in style, but all have one feature in common: they are great for brides who want to show off their backs. The “Leah” is a mermaid gown with a striking low back, as well as a champagne hued lace overlay and an elongated appliqué train. For edgier or nontraditional brides, the “Kamilla” is a show-stopping ebony number with an elegant high neck and keyhole back. For those not looking for a full-length gown, the “Mira” is a tea length number with a V-back detailed with beaded French lace that forms the cap sleeves. Adding to the Jazz Age appeal are ostrich feathers that trim the hem of the dress. As a twist on the popularity of 1990s style, the crisscross back and removable choker of the “Anastasia” dress is softened by the same French beaded lace of the “Mira” gown. Responding to the increased use of the reception dress, the versatility of “Macie” – a cocktail gown with a low back, plunging neckline, and three-dimensional lace tulle overskirt – allows the bride to change her look without having to search for a second dress.
