Thirty years ago, if you wanted to share the news of your engagement, you'd post an engagement announcement in the local newspaper. But ever since the rise in popularity of social media, there's a new way to share news of your impending wedding: Instagram!

Whether you're very active on Instagram or you just post every once in awhile, this is perhaps the most exciting Instagram post you've shared so far, so take the time to plan a cute photo (or photo slideshow!) and caption. Highlight your new engagement ring, the proposal, your fiancé – whatever inspires you. If there was ever a time to make sure your Instagram captions were perfect and your photo was well-composed and not blurry, this is it! How he asked 💍🥰 It was Christmas Day, and we were at the Taj Mahal. This was unintentional, because we were on a tight schedule. Between my last day of class in the Netherlands and my friend’s wedding in southern India, we had only a couple of days to fly in from Amsterdam, see the sights, and make it to the wedding. I planned the trip, and it just so happened that we were at the Taj Mahal on December 25th. It was foggy that day, and quite cold (if you look closely, you’ll see I’m wearing leggings). Typically, you should visit the Taj Mahal at sunrise to avoid the crowds, but our guide said it was too foggy and that if we went in the morning, we wouldn’t be able to see anything. Tom seemed concerned about the news. We spent the morning visiting other sights, which were almost eerie, being so shrouded in fog. Early afternoon, we finally made it to the Taj Mahal. Sure enough, there were people everywhere. We found the spot, it was surprisingly clear, handed the camera to the tour guide, and then...! He said something. I said something. Neither of us remember what we said, only that the sound of the world had fallen away and we were the only two left. I have often thought that, even if the world as we know it was no more, and we were only spirits adrift in the universe, I would be happy, because we would be together. Show Off That Ring! 

Another way to announce your engagement is by posting a photo your loved ones certainly won't scroll past – after all, one of the first things most people want to see once you get engaged is your ring! Either post a cute caption about the proposal or you can always go with the "Does this ring make me look engaged?" line if you're at a loss for words.
