Turks and Caicos Islands

Though commonly thought to be part of the Caribbean, Turks and Caicos is actually an archipelago boasting over 100 islands and cays, with nine inhabited islands, in the Atlantic Ocean. The British Overseas Territory is located just 575 miles southeast of Miami, Florida, and 75 miles north of the Dominican Republic. The majority of the Turks and Caicos population resides on the island of Providenciales, which is part of the Caicos Islands (Providenciales, North Caicos Middle Caicos, East Caicos, South Caicos and West Caicos), and the second most populated area is the capital city of Cockburn Town on the island of Grand Turk in the Turks Islands (Grand Turk and Salt Cay).

While hurricane season should still be considered, the sunny Turks and Caicos islands do offer mostly sunny skies year-round. For couples weary of tropical destinations due to rainfall, the Turks and Caicos islands are often a favorite as the islands have one of the lowest annual averages of rainfall in the area. This means you'll have plenty of sunny days to lay out on the sand and splash in the sea. The Turks and Caicos islands are also a great choice for American visitors as English is the official language of the island, so you won't need to worry about any language barriers, and the U.S. Dollar is universally accepted throughout the island as a common currency.

Most travelers visit the Turks and Caicos islands for the pristine beaches – including the highly acclaimed Grace Bay Beach and Long Bay Beach on Providenciales in the Caicos Islands – but all of the Turks and Caicos islands are known for much more than white-sand beaches and turquoise seas. Since there are nearby barrier reefs, scuba diving is a popular activity, beautiful golf course options with exceptional views are available for play throughout the islands, and water sports such as paddle boarding, kite boarding, sport fishing, and more are often enjoyed by kids and adults alike. Spotting sea life in the turquoise waters is another option for adult or family fun, as is finding rock iguanas perched on the islands.

Grace Bay Beach

If you have "visiting the world's best beaches" on your travel bucket list, you won't want to miss this one. The world-famous Grace Bay Beach is located on the northeast coast of the island of Providenciales and has been named the "World's Leading Beach Destination" by the World Travel Awards, as well as the winner in Trip Advisor's World's Best Beaches competition. Clean, turquoise water and soft white sand with no rocks or seaweed make this setting ideal for the most discerning beachgoer. Though the Turks and Caicos islands are in the Atlantic Ocean, an offshore barrier reef helps to keep the beach calm and safe, making it ideal for children and families as well. Grace Bay Beach is a little over three miles long and continues into Leeward Beach, another popular spot. There are many luxury resorts along Grace Bay Beach, including romantic resorts that are also ideal for families, including the all-inclusive Beaches Turks & Caicos.
